ON
THE CANAL DU MIDI
Back
to Travels
In '01, just after we got
married, so you could call it our Honeymoon, we went boating on a
houseboat on the Canal du Midi in France. Something that I had done
before and that I wanted Pranom to enjoy too.. Still do not know if she
really did, it was a bit too laidback for her <G>
Because it would have been
boring to go just by ourselves, We took along Juergen, Pranee (Thai too)
and her daughter Christine.
For those who have not done
this before .... this is all about relaxing, eating, drinking, watching
the world go by at about 6 knots - and nothing else
| living on a house
boat does not mean that you have to give up on ameniites |
| some physical work is
required though in the locks |
somebody has to take
the ropes |
| but then, for a long
while the hardest work is the cork-pulling |
and the duck-feeding |
| or watching other
people passing (though when its big one like that you get a
little nervous <G>) |
but then its peaceful
again |
| passing the big lock
at Fonserannes |
| preparing for dinner
at some quiet place |
| its like with
flying... hours of boredom |
and the moments of
sheer terror - the waves were really going high there |
| |
even if it said
"ne pas se baigner" we took a jump into the water
after the crossing |
| |
the horses of the
Camargue |
| but as you can see -
we generally had a good time .... |
| and good food too - I
love those "plateaux de fruits de mer" |
and then relaxed
after we got home |
