My Favorite Aircraft - The
A340
Hi, this part of our
web-page is dedicated to Flightsimmers and particularly to those who
are like me: no manual skills, absolutely left-handed, no knowledge of
electronics (switches - huh ?) - soldering - amhghh (in German we say:
"loeten" and the other meaning of the word is to have a
number of drinks, and that I know how to do)
What I do have is an
affliction to flightsimming and the wish to have a - more or less
realistic - A340 cockpit at my home.
If you are patient and
interested, I will tell you just a little bit about myself - otherwise
you can go straight to the Cockpit parts in the menu on the
left.
In July 2008, I turned
58, I am German and have been living in Asia for nearly 15 years, first in Hong Kong, now in
Thailand with my dearly beloved wife Pranom.
What I do in Asia is of
no importance here, just that my job involves a lot of traveling
around Asia, so I spend a lot of time in airplanes and around
airports.
When I still lived
in Europe, my hobby used to be flying - real life flying - gliders and
single engine - I have had a pilots license for 28 years and have
flown approximately 3000 hours in more than 6000 flights. You can have
a look at my flying experiences here.
Alas, the exigencies of my job did not allow me to keep up my license
and in 2001 it finally expired.
So flightsimming became
more important to me as before. I joined SATCO, then VATSIM and
finally ended up with IVAO for on-line flying., but I have given up on
on-line flying for quite some time now.
I had been flying sims
on and off forever, since the days when the flightsim was still
running on my APPLE II, but it was never really serious. But serious
it became: Out of 1 computer soon became a networked 2 and then it
started to grow.... Now I am running 6 computers just for the
flightsim and Project Magneta (thanks, Enrico for a wonderful
software) see here
for the configuration.
The cockpit - thing
started like many others - surfing the web and looking at all
the nice pics of all those cockpits in the making - and mostly out of
annoyance of having to operate 6 sets of keyboards and mice. I
decided: Must have too - I want to operate my cockpit by
switches and displays like in the real thing.... The choice of
aircraft was made quickly (too quickly I realize now) for the A340 -
my favorite. And so the saga begins....
